St. Barts Wedding PhotographyJennifer and Mark from Toronto decided to take their destination wedding to the next level by choosing to get married at the magical French Island of St. Barths. To say that their wedding was a dream wedding, would be an understatement. The French speaking island located in the caribbean is truly a paradise and a playground for the rich and famous. The landscape in St. Bart provided the most romantic backdrop for Jennifer and Mark's wedding. Jennifer and Mark chose Eden Rock for their picturesque rehearsal dinner, and the Villa Palm Beach as their location of choice for their big day. I can see why. This place was to die for. It is a private estate tucked in and hidden from public view. The Villa Palm Beach Estate provided the perfect balance of beauty and privacy. We didn't have much time for photos of the couple because of the wedding schedule running over two hours behind, but we did sneak a few breathtaking nuptial photos. I felt so inspired everywhere I turned. For this photo, I wanted to keep it simple. Let the romance of the place do the talking right? I simply got the couple to escape their guests for a few minutes to take some photos. I propped them up in that small area to shift my camera angle upwards. I then used the palm tree as a compositional element and the two boats on the left as an added bonus that sets the mood and spirit of the Island. I kept the pose very simple, but worked hard on their expression. Wedding photos must always make you feel like you are witnessing a moment not a pose staged by a photographer. This to me, is key! Because the couple was backlit, I used a reflector made by Profoto to reflect some of the light back to them gently caressing her dress. A Silhouette would have been nice as well, but my original vision for this photo was to retain detail in the side closest to the camera. I then asked mark to gentle and soft kiss in her forehead while he breathed in. The breathing makes the pose more realistic. I will never forget this gorgeous wedding in the island of St. Barts. My wife Kim assisted me during this wedding and we got to stay in the beautiful Tom Beach Hotel. We had a great experience there. The wedding coordinator was fabulous and very detailed oriented. Her name is Karine Bensa from DK Events St-Barth. Highly recommend Karine, she was the best! The Villa Palm Beach website is: Villa Palm Beach
